Actually this is my 1st ‘blog’ in 2009 so let’s start with thanking you big
time for all the support last and hopefully this year again!
After a nice small holiday i’m ready to do my thing again so here i am with
some fresh news and even some music if you’re lucky ;-)
KAPUCHON & BENNY RODRIGUES- UNEXPECTED EP (BEYOND RECORDS
002)
Another month, another release :-) and this time Kapuchon and me brings in a
slightly more deeper tech-house orientaded sound inspired by that ‘lovely
city’ ;-)
All 3 tracks on this ‘Unexpected EP’ are getting massive support from loads
of artists including Steve Bug who charted ‘Potato Tomato’ even 3 months in
a row including the damn fine nmr 1 spot for the last 2 months!!!!
If you like your tech-house moody and Detroitish, then please check it
out....you might like it! ;-)
The next installment from the new Beyond imprint is with us, featuring two
newcomers from the thriving US underground: Kapuchon & Benny Rodriques. The
pair bring a magical detroit infused collection of warm, urgent and modern
house music into our peripheral vision where its simply hard to ignore ...
Like a well loved vintage drum machine tweaked to perfection, or a dusty old
synth rejuvinated, „And Again“ draws inspiration from the rich synthesised
landscapes of classic detroit techno, however adds a totally fresh and
modern aesthetic, through its use of precise drum fills and beatifully
crafted harmonies.
On a more thoughful, soulful tip, „Unexpected“ unravells itself with smooth
chord atmospheres, driving, solid-state percussion and teasing delay fx. The
story might be a familar one to those who have their ears firmly pressed to
the dancefloor, but for good reason, as these two fine storytellers have
crafted a golden moment for the late, late hours.
The acidic ride of „Potato Tomato“, with its pushing sub bass and glistening
crescendos is perhaps the toughest cut of the E.P, and delivers the energy
where its needed whilst still holding onto that classic, deep-as-dawn
chicagotodetroit vibe.
A totally essential dancefloor tool, with real timeless quality. Enough said.
Bar, whisking us off into the Beyond...

BENNY RODRIGUES UPCOMING RELEASE ON SHLOMI ABER’S BE AS ONE IMPRINT!!!!
Yes, that’s no joke! In March i will release a new record on the really cool
Be As One label runned by the israelian tech-house star Shlomi Aber.
I must say that i’m very happy to announce this news as Be As One is doing
really cool things lately and is pumping out the ‘hits’ like as if it’s
nothing! (Gel Abril, Shlomi Aber, Samuel L Session, Emmanuel etc etc).
‘Benny Rodrigues- I Like EP’ will feature 1 track by Kapuchon and me ‘Reel’
(wich some of you might remember from my sets and something else? ;-) ;-)
and my 1st ever released solo-track ‘I Like’.
I will get back to you about this special release very very soon but for now
i can tell you already ‘Benny Rodrigues- I Like EP’ is getting some really
cool early feedback from Josh Wink, Shlomi Aber, Gel Abril, Tobi Neumann,
D’Julz and.....Nic Fanciulli!
For an exclusive preview of both tracks see below for a recent dj-set
recorded by Nic Fanciulli using both tracks of ‘Benny Rodrigues- I Like
EP’....niiiiiice! :-)
Nic Fanciulli Saved at matter launch mix for download!! NIC FANCIULLI SAVED LAUNCH MIX FOR DOWNLOAD
As we look ahead to the launch of Saved at matter Nic Fanciulli has
delivered an exclusive mix to get you in the mood for what will be an
unforgettable night. Covering deep house, techno and even a spot of jazz,
the mix is 60 minutes of electronic excellence, nothing less than whats
expected from Saved’s resident DJ.
I repeat, another month, another record and this will pretty much continue
untill the summer so be on the look-out! ;-)
Gig-wise things are looking great this year again! but i always find it a
bit of difficult job to point out 1 or 2 gigs as i do so many gigs it would
be kinda ‘unfair’ to to not include all my other gigs in this ‘blog’.....
So instead i’ll just post a live-set from one of my recent gigs so you’ll
get a clue where i was and what i was doing ;-)
BENNY RODRIGUES LIVE-SET @ REX, PARIS (JOSH WINK’S
WHEN A BANANA WAS JUST A BANANA ALBUM-TOUR!)
yeah! on Thursday February 19th i got an invite by Josh Wink to join him on
his ‘When A Banana Was Just A Banana’ album tour in the france number 1 club
The Rex in Paris.
Together with D’julz, Josh and me we had a great night and fortunately i got
to record my set that i played after Josh from 04.00-06.00 am (closing-set).
After a groovy warm-up set from D’Julz and a smashing old pumping-tech set
from Josh i ended up playing my recent favourite deeper tech/house en
detroitish records and i hope you like it? i know The Rex did ;-)

so you’ll know whats happening musically over here.
benny rodrigues charts january 09
1: the martinez brothers & argy- where is mr brown/debbie downer (objektivity)
‘debbie downer’ is obviouly the ‘hit’ on here and it does a good job on
the dancefloor for sure but for me it is most defintely ‘where is mr brown’
doing the bizz for me, pumping yet deep, hypnotic yet party, dubby yet tech....put
the strobo’s on and let’s go!
2: josh wink- when a banana was just a banana album (ovum)
8 cuts from acidish tech-house to deep movers, no favourite’s here as
they are all cool and great to play out!
3: hauntologist- hauntologist 001 (hauntologist)
deep sneaky hypnotic acidish stuff....absolutely great trax!
4: equalized- equalized 003 (equalized)
and again the german does it better ;-)....hardwax in full effect, great!
5: frozen border- frozen border 001 (frozen border)
raw chicago pumping tech trax for the floors....you don’t need much if you
have these cuts!
6: even tuell- workshop 007 (workshop)
simply beautifull trax.....detroit!
7: 2000 and one- heritage album (100% pure)
party cuts, nothing more, nothing less....let the cuts do their work,
they will kill....especially ‘spanish fly’!
8: crowdpleaser- xyz (drumpoet community)
creepy and beautifull, to play at those special right moments!
9: james kumo- ? (delsin/ainn aime)
very interesting release again by james kumo, industrial detroitish
tech-funk, great!
10: ben klock- before one ep (ostgut)
4 really cool cuts for the deeper techheadz.
11: speedy j- edlx (clr)
oh yes....big-room mindfuck tech in the way only speedy j. can, nice!
12: dido- don’t believe in love ‘dennis ferrer rmx’ (?)
oh yeah, this grew on me....dennis doing his thing a bit more tech-ish
and what a grower it is....lovely atmosphere with the beautifull dido
voice....i like!
13: shlomi aber- black tittle/rainers (be as one)
for the floor, for the floor, for the floor, for the floor....
14: daniel stenberg- pay for me ‘lauhaus rmx’ (style rockets)
this is doing cool for me at the floors, easy subtile groove.
15: dyed sodorom vs brothers vibe- con leche (freak & chiq)
aiaiaiai, one of my favourite artists (function) on a mighty damn nice label
(sandwell district), this is serious bizznizzzz! I just love it when a track
can bring you in a whole different (trippy/druggy) state of mind, this is so
hypnotic but still very dancefloor-minded, i freakin love it big time!!!! If
you’re looking for the ultimate drugs music? Function (or sleeparchive) is
your guy!
2: don’t resist the beat- minus 126 (don’t resist the beat)
another hardwax gem again and i’m pretty sure it’s marcel detmann behind it
but you know what? I don’t care if he is or not as all tracks are great and
very modern yet classical techno, bring it on!
3: norman nodge- norman nodge ep (md)
on marcel detmann’s label (what a great producer and dj he is!) here a new
ep by fellow berghain-resident norman nodge, deep and dark techno that we
need today!
4: martinez- le cirkus (moon harbour) + ahmet sisman- saruka (?)
oh yes, these tribalistic cuts have been blowing off the roof pretty much
everywhere i’ve played for them for last weeks, party-time!
5: seth toxler- aphrika (wolf+lamb)
i’m really feeling the fresh stuff seth is putting out and this is no
exception, very original and flowing track for the beginning of the deeper
sets, love it!
6: master h- magik k ‘rmx ep’ (soma)
ah man, i always tought master h is kinda underestimated but i love his work
and now his biggest hit gets remixed by christian prommer and himself, love
both mixes altough master h’s mix nails it for me….lovely deep afro-house ;)
7: slam- hot knives (soma)
boooooooom! Not very original anymore (the ‘up’ sound that is) but very
effective, works like a charm! ;)
8: m.in- work your body (?)
nice rolling groover, i like.
9: kevin saunderson- bounce your body to the box ‘mike shannon rmxs’ (kms)
two very nice usefull rmxs of this classic, 1 very party-minded with an
oldskool twist and another one wich is a bit more funky and modern
minimal-techhouse, nice.
10: loco dice- pimp jackson ‘dj sneak rmx’ + jay haze- can’t forget ‘dj
sneak rmx’ (?)
hell yeah, dj sneak seems to be back for a lot of peepz, for me hen ever
went away, in the true sneak tradition, jacking beats and bumping bass….bring
it on!
ps: mike huckaby rmxs for loco dice are also very nice, in fact, all the
rmxs for loco dice’s recent doublepacks are doing it for me.
11: dave spoon- lummox (televizion)
p.a.r.t.y!
12: jesse rose- touch my horn (frontroom)
p.a.r.t.y again! ;)
13: makam- the hague soul ep (soweso)
altough i’m not to sure about den haag being the soulfull city (hahaha lol)
i like both original cuts, retrodisco
14: gregor tresher- 95 days (ovum)
nice swinging shuffleling tech-house for the floors.
15: orlando voorn- ? ‘marco bernardi rmx’ (?)
beautifull detroitish track reminding me of old carl craig….wonderfull and
full of emotion!
16: feisty- unknown (unknown)
another bootleg from ‘c’lime woman’ that rocks, thats nmr 2
17: simon flower- ? ‘efdemin rmx’ (pokerflat)
very nice dubby affair from the man that never dissapoints (efdemin that
is!).
18: omar s- ? (sound signature)
from day one i’m a big fan of omar s, raw and honest musci to the bone, no
tricks, no gimiicks, true honest music, you go omar!
19: melly mel and rishi bass- monkey ‘madskillz rmx’ (masal)
a bit more gimmicks over here ;) when i play my more ‘mainstream’ gigs this
just goes off big-time, very nice!
20: benny rodrigues- i like ep (be as one)
well, i’ll let you do the deciding but i like ;-) 1 track with kapuchon and
a solo one, hope you like?
+ sideshow album (aus music)
heaven’t heard all of it yet but from what i heard i know enough! If you
like dub mixed with electronic vibes (dubstep?), check this out! also many
other albums still to check out though….
