Well, i am....and hereby some of the latest happenings in my world, always a
bit to late but hey, it’s here now isn’t it? ;-)
NEW RELEASE: BENNY RODRIGUES- I LIKE EP (BE AS ONE)
I’m really proud to announce you my new release for Shlomi Aber’s really
cool Be As One label.
2 tracks wich were both inspired by everything Chicago and more, ‘Reel’ (co-produced
by Kapuchon) could be seen as our tribute to Chicago-legend DJ Sneak who for
me always have been a very huge inspiration from the start!
It’s funky, groovy, hypnotic and the bass just goes off!
‘I Like’ is my first ever solo-release track and goes more vintage and
defanitely a little bit edgier and ‘minimal’ in arrangement ;-)
It’s all about the hypnotic icecold groove and if you don’t like it from the
start, you’ll probably won’t like it later on as well ;)
Support has been huge, see all the info you might want to know :)
BAO015 Benny Rodrigues I Like EP
Benny Rodrigues produces a package that lives up to its name. ‘I Like’ EP
oozes influences from Detroit techno and masters a current take on an
age-old sound. ‘I Like’ is delicious, wrapped in vintage sounds, it creates
a true party atmosphere. ‘Reel’ is coproduced with fellow Dutch musician
Kapuchon. This is the sound of old school flavours, tearing into the past
and the present and creating a winning formula.
Benny Rodrigues was born and raised in Rotterdam, and held residencies at
some of Holland most influentual clubs from the age of 17. He has toured
with his musical hero, the legendary Josh Wink, been asked twice to perform
at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and headlined and closed the
legendary dance-festivals Dancevalley, Mysteryland and Extrema.
This is Benny Rodrigues first release for the Israeli imprint, Be As One.
His releases have begun to find allegiances with artists such as Steve Bug,
Radioslave and Be As One’s own Shlomi Aber. Being regularly charted and
played by the best, Benny is stepping into the global arena.

The kind people @
Beatport/Beatportal thought ‘Reel’ could do some serious damage @ the annual
Winter Music Conference in Miami....
There is a big need for lazy house music grooves during Miami’s WMC, an
imperative intrinsically linked to the stretched energy levels of
attendees and the large amount of afternoon/sunrise sets. A standard
night out’s enthusiasm (which rises and then falls within a few hours)
in Miami is replaced by days of general haziness that if anything,
become a purer canvas for DJs to play with.
Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues’ excellent new house cut ‘Reel’ will work
wonders for any DJs who find themselves playing to a crowd that’s
struggling to keep moving (awake), because in those instances, you just
need to keep it afloat.
Hear a preview after the jump!
‘Reel’ chugs along tepidly at first, with a double noted bassline wobble
that’s backed up by a hypnotic bleep-ridden lead. In the background a
crowd quietly chats, adding more atmosphere and weirdness to the mix (some
people might think they’re hearing things).
As the track progresses, a tribal Latino-sounding male vocal chant comes
in, which has just the right amount of energy to keep feet jiggling and
raise a few flaccid arms (enough to keep the reels moving, so to speak).
‘Reel’ is a subtle wonder, an understated, sophisticated house track
that is far from the crowd-pleasing obvious anthems one normally
associates with WMC. That makes it a useful bridge for the gaps in
between the music and the memories.
Well, they weren’t
wrong about that haha....
I heard both tracks played a lot during the WMC and i must say, it’s kinda
cool hearing your tracks being played by artists that really inspire me in
music so much, here 1 example:
Well, nuff said, ‘I Like EP’ is released now pretty much everywhere so go
out and find it! :-)
UPCOMING RELEASE: KAPUCHON & BENNY RODRIGUES-
THE FINGER REMIX EP (SPINCLUB RECORDINGS)
Oh yeah, ‘The Finger’ did good, ‘reel’ good
so to speak :) ....
so that’s why the to kind to be true Chris Liebing (it’s his label you know
;-) decided to release a remix ep of ‘The Finger’ with various remixes such
as a really nice by the one and only Radioslave...oh yeah! :)
Next to the legendary Radioslave remix there are 4 other great remixes
included from D-Nox & Beckers (remember ‘Shanghai’?), Monoloc, DJ Emerson &
Masuki.
There is something for everyone here as the remixes varies from clubby
tech-house to serious deep-tech and even some progessive influences here and
there ;-)
Support is big again and excpect some namedropping (lol) and other
release-info soon ;-)
But if you can’t wait untill then check out the tracks @ www.myspace.com/spinclubrecordings
and get a pretty good preview of what’s coming :)
I could act ‘to cool for school’ now and only mention the unreleased goodies
now (promo’s they call it ;) such as the new Planetary Assault System
(Killer psycho techno), 2 new Be As One’s (after mine ep), 3 upcoming Ovum’s
(nice!), a couple of new Delsin’s (aiaiaiai) and more....but....i’m not! lol
;-)
Here some of my favourite 20 records out there released in March, i have
even more favourite records i buy in a month (favourite for so much
different reasons) but hey, i have to draw the line somewhere right? ;)
1: Culoe De Song- The Bright Forrest (Innervisions) / Reggie Dokes- Let
Me Go Away ‘Culoe De Song RMX’ (Offering)
Well, i can tell you for sure Culoe is my most favourite artist of this
month by far!
His 3 tracks for Ame’s and Dixon’s mighty Innervision are so beautifull,
emotional and deep....without loosing the african-swing element, and then
his remix for Reggie Dokes....so emotional, it made me almost cry the 1st
time i heard this!
After i heard the ‘The Bright Forrest’ for the first time (a while ago) i
started doing some research immediatly and fell in love with this
South-African artist rightaway! (not litterally....jus so you know ;-)
To promote these 2 releases he also did a podcast for the really cool
www.residentadvisor.net and this amazing mix had me in spiritual African
heaven for some time, by far one of the most interesting podcasts i’ve heard
this year already! (but the fact that he plays almost unreleased stuff on it
only also helps you know ;-)
No, i’m not his manager or his African soulbrother haha ;-) but this guy
touches me deep with his music, can’t wait to hear the new stuff!
And for all the motherfuckers ‘raping’ the so called ‘latin house’....watch
this:
Ok, ok, enough now....stick to the program please! ;)
2: Moodymann- Another Black Sunday (KDJ)
The legendary Moodymann shows how it’s done....again! When Mr Moody goes
danceable, there’s always something special/unique about his sound...i guess
this is what they call ‘Black Music’ ;-)
3: Ovatow- Exchanging Elements (Frantic Flowers)
Dub-Techno done in a proper and deep way without even using that typically
‘Dub-Tech’ sound ;-) It grows and grows and the Clone Records guys know that!
:)
4: Basic Soul Unit- Dank (Philpot)
Oh yeah, one of my favourite labels (runned by the FANTASTIC Jackmate) here
with a magnificent release from BSU (also check out their other stuff!),
pure oldskool analogue proper stuff!
5: Andy Stott- Brief Encounter (Modern Love)
Another favourite label of mine with the mighty Andy Stott doing his deep
and dubby thing, with even some serious Dub-Step an the flip....love it!
6: Paul Brtscnisch- Grow ‘Jackmate RMX’ (Resopal Red)
Jackmate does it again!
7: Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues- Reel / Benny Rodrigues- I Like (Be As One)
ahum....well, i really love them :-)
8: Darko Esser- Cold Feet (Wolfskuil Limited)
My buddy here with some twisted evil tech-house with a typical
‘Darko-emo-twist’ ;-)
The Tommy 4 Seven rmx also kicks ass!
9: Staffan Linzatti- The World Ends With You (Stockholm LTD)
Sick evil tech!
10: Tom Trago- Voyager Album (Rush Hour)
Hell yeah! P.H.O.N.K.Y!
11: Pitto- Feelin (Rejected)
I see al the regular dutch clubkids now thinking ‘finally some music he
actually plays over here’ hahaha ;-)
I’m aware of the fact that i chart mostly the deeper stuff instead of the
dancefloor-killers and it’s not because i’m trying to look ‘credible’ or
whatever ;) but mostly because i think this is the music that touches me
deeper and inspires me more then the ‘easyer’ stuff (wich i also chart when
i love it so if you look good you’ll find ;-).
Ok, back to this track haha, i’ve been playing this bomb in it’s original
version for over 2 years now and it killed the floors almost everywhere i
played it, seems i’m not the only one thinking this as the feedback for this
track is amazing!
You go Pitto!
12: Andre Crom- Jazz Thing ‘Riva Starr RMX’ (Playtime)
Huge funky tech-house killler!
13: Vince Watson- My Desire EP (Planet E)
Inspired by one of my favourite records ever! (Desire by Carl Craig) Vince
deliver 2 pieces of emotional stuff on mr Graig’s legendary label!
some very nice tech-house cuts for the floors, gets the floor moving for
sure!
15: Nick & Danny Chatelain- Felices Para Siempre (Vendetta)
Big-Room happyness (cynical or not ;-) wich should work like a charm at
those upcoming beachparty’s ;-), i had this over a year now but didn’t play
it as much as i wanted to but now it’s released and with the summer in mind....:-)
16: Cirkel 004- Cirkel 004 (Cirkel 004)
Some might call it the 1000st rip-off from Basic Channel, wich i’m pretty
sure is true to a certain degree but hey fuck it, it’s really nice!
17: Syntheme- Vol 3 (Planet Mu)
Planet Mu....a very experimental label releasing some crazy weird stuff for
quite a while now, some i like, some i don’t ;-) but i really admire this
legendary label for doing what they are doing!
Weird acid-breakcore? without sounding too much break-core or something?
pretty weird :-)
It’s weird, it’s different, it’s experimental, it’s sick, it’s not for the
faint hearthed, it’s ....Planet Mu ;-)
Also check out the other Syntheme stuff if you like this!
18: Kerri Chandler- Track 1 (max traxx) / Dahlback & Krome- The Real
Jazz/Where Is The Time Mr Templer (P&D)
2 really old trax being re-issued again this month, especially the Dahlback
& Krome tracks are really special to me as these are 2 records that actually
never left my recordbox, essential house & tech-house!
19: 2562- techno dread (tectonic)
I’m pretty sure this released is a re-issue? as i’m playing this track
already for quite some time now, great mixture of dubstep and techno, like
it a lot!
20: Buraka Som Sistema- Black Diamond Album (Fabric)
It started in Africa and it ends in Africa :)
This album had me going crazy for months now, the music is called ‘Kuduro’ (wich
is African music i’ve grew up with as a kid) and on this album BSS mixes it
up with some interesting fusion of dubstep, electro and rave with even some
hip-hop influences here and there.
Some tracks i can and i am playing it out such as ‘Yah’ or ‘Weke Weke’ but
it’s the whole album wich has to be listened to experience the ultimate
rave-exoerience ;-)
Where you might think it’s all ‘gimmick-music’....listen better....it’s
special!
ps: most of us were not born in Africa but Africa was born in the most of us....
Goodbye March (altough it’s almost the end of April ;-)
